2002-06-20 OFFICIAL Transcript of Michael Jackson's Speech at MJNI's KILLER THRILLER
We are pleased to present the OFFICIAL transcript of the speech Michael Jackson gave after attending two hours of live performances at the MJNI Killer Thriller party in London on 15th June.
The party - at the Equinox in Leicester Square - was organised by Gloria Haydock and MJ News International's dedicated team of Fan Club volunteers who worked solidly to pull off (in barely six weeks!) the most successful fan gathering ever held in the name of Michael Jackson.
Michael told MJNI after the show that he "greatly enjoyed it," and he and his entourage repeated this message to many of our team members and other fans throughout the remainder of his stay in London.
We are very honoured that he chose our show to make his groundbreaking speech, which we now reproduce in its entirety. (Special thanks to Matt Dodwell.)
The Speech
I want to thank all the great, incredible talents. [DJ plays "Speechless".] As long as you play the music, I want to dance! I want to thank this guy for a wonderful performance [referring to Ernest Valentino.] I thought Bryton McClure was amazing, too. He's a great singer as well.
Anyway, I first wanted to say, I really don't like to talk that much. I really don't. I prefer performing than talking.
I really want you to know what I say. The tradition of great performers: from Sammy Davis Junior, James Brown, to Jackie Wilson, to Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly. The story is usually the same though. These guys worked really hard, and they're crabbed, for the story ends the same. They are usually broken, torn and usually just sad, because the companies take advantage of them, they really do.
And being the artist that I am, at Sony I've generated several billion dollars for Sony, several billon. They really thought that my mind is always on music and dancing. It usually is, but they never thought that this performer - myself - would out think them.
So, we can't let them get away with what they're trying to do, because now I'm a free agent. I just owe Sony one more album. It's just a box set, really, with two new songs which I've written ages ago. Because for every album that I record, I write - literally, I'm telling you the truth - I write at least 120 songs every album I do. So I can do the box set, just giving them any two songs.
So I'm leaving Sony, a free agent, owning half of Sony. I own half of Sony's Publishing. I'm leaving them, and they're very angry at me, because I just did good business, you know.
So the way they get revenge is to try and destroy my album. But I've always said, you know, art - good art - never dies. Thank you.
And Tommy Mottola is a devil! I'm not supposed to say what I'm going to say right now, but I have let you know this. [Points to crowd.] Please don't videotape what I am going to say, ok? Turn it off, please. Do it, do it, I don't mind! Tape it!
Mariah Carey, after divorcing Tommy, came to me crying. Crying. She was crying so badly I had to hold her. She said to me, "This is an evil man, and Michael, this man follows me." He taps her phones, and he's very, very evil. She doesn't trust him.
We have to continue our drive until he is terminated. We can't allow him to do this to great artists, we just can't.
I just wanted to let you know, I appreciate everything you've done, you've been amazing.
You're so loyal! [Scanning the audience.] Diana, everybody, Waldo, all the people here! I love you all. You've been amazing, I love you!
But still, but still, I promise you, the best is yet to come!

2002-06-16 "Sony Didn't Realise This Artist Would Out-Think Them"
I'm a free agent now, says Michael Jackson at MJNI's Killer Thriller Party
An exuberant crowd welcomed Michael Jackson to the stage of the Equinox in Leicester Square, London, on 15th June.
Michael, who had watched two hours of live performances from tribute artists at the MJNI Fan Club bash from his VIP box at the side of the stage, thanked the performers for their talent and the fans for their loyalty.
He then began an unprecedented verbal assault on the appalling tactics of Sony Music who he accused of trying to "destroy" the INVINCIBLE album because they couldn't stand the thought that the artist had "out-thought" the company.
Michael told his fans that he only had to do one more album for Sony, and that would be a box set with two new songs. "I can give them any old songs," he said, to laughter and rapturous applause. "I'm a free agent now," he continued, "but I walk away with 50% of Sony Publishing. They're very angry with me."
Jackson described Sony CEO Tommy Mottola as "evil," "the devil" and said that his way of doing business had to be "terminated".
All this was met with cheers from the 2,200 fans who were packed into the Equinox.
Prior to his appearance on stage, fans were treated to a special 6 minute video that MJNI had commissioned, outlining the unique influence that Michael Jackson has had on successive generations of recording artists.
Earlier in the day, Michael Jackson made a personal appearance at the Demonstration of Fan Support outside the offices of Sony Music. The demo was organised by MJNI and was fully supported by Angel, Planet Jackson and 40 other fan clubs from around the world. Hundreds upon hundreds of fans were packed into Great Marlborough Street to witness Michael's extraordinary contribution to the proceedings.
On the top deck of an open-top London Sightseeing bus, Michael responded to chants of "Sony Sucks" by putting his thumbs up and, later, joining in with the chants. Central London was brought to a standstill as thousands of people vied for a closer look at the King of Pop.
Gloria Haydock, President of MJ News International said after the Equinox event: "Today has been an extraordinary day in the world of Michael Jackson. He has delivered a heartfelt message to the people who have remained loyal to him for so many years - his fans. We are so proud that he chose to do it at our event; it has been a dream come true for MJNI."
"I really don't like to talk much," Jackson had said, playfully, before he launched into his incredible indictment of Sony Music's underhand behaviour.
Meanwhile, thousands of adoring fans and scores of policemen drafted in to deal with the mania have proved, once and for all, that Michael Jackson remains a force to be reckoned with.
